About the 488 GTB
The 488 GTB marked Ferrari's return to forced induction in its core mid-engined car, and the engineering challenge was not making power but hiding the turbochargers. Ferrari used small, low-inertia twin-scroll turbos, a flat-plane crank and a variable torque management system that deliberately limits torque in the lower gears — so the car pulls harder and harder as you climb through the ratios, mimicking the escalating delivery of the naturally aspirated 458 it replaced.
The result is 670 PS from 3.9 litres and 0 to 100 km/h in three seconds flat, but the character is what people remember. It does not punch and plateau the way most turbocharged cars do; it keeps building to 8,000 rpm.
Aerodynamically it is dense with detail — the blown rear spoiler, the base-bleed front duct and the aggressive side intakes all do measurable work, generating 50 percent more downforce than the 458 with no drag penalty. Inside, the driver-centric layout puts the manettino, indicators, wipers and starter on the steering wheel itself.
