About the Aventador S
The Aventador S is the car people picture when they say the word Lamborghini. Scissor doors, a carbon fibre monocoque, and a 6.5-litre V12 mounted behind the cabin that revs to 8,500 rpm without a turbocharger anywhere in the system. Lamborghini has since moved to hybrid V12s, which makes the Aventador the end of a line that started with the Miura in 1966.
The S designation brought four-wheel steering, a reworked Haldex all-wheel-drive system and a fourth drive mode, Ego, which lets the driver mix steering, suspension and powertrain settings independently. Four-wheel steering matters more here than on any other Lamborghini: the Aventador is a long car, and the rear axle steering shortens it noticeably at low speed while stabilising it above 120 km/h.
The V12 is the reason to book it. There is no turbo lag, no artificial sound enhancement, and no substitute — the noise from 4,000 rpm upward is the single most recognisable sound in modern performance cars, and it is loud enough that we recommend planning your departure time out of consideration for the neighbours.
