About the 570S
The 570S opened McLaren's Sports Series, but the compromise implied by that positioning is smaller than it sounds. It retains the carbon fibre MonoCell II tub of the more expensive cars — a structure that weighs around 75 kilograms and gives the car both its rigidity and its low kerb weight of roughly 1,440 kilograms dry.
The 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 produces 570 PS and 600 Nm, enough for 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds and 328 km/h flat out. Where the 570S differs from the Super Series above it is in tuning rather than substance: conventional adaptive dampers with anti-roll bars instead of the hydraulically interlinked Proactive Chassis Control, and a modest 30 per cent more compliance designed into the suspension for road use.
The MonoCell II is cut lower at the sills than earlier McLaren tubs specifically to make the dihedral doors usable without practice, and visibility out of the car is unusually good for the class.
