About the 911 Carrera S
Every sports car gets measured against the 911, and the 992-generation Carrera S is why. The 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged flat-six sits behind the rear axle where it has always been, producing 450 PS through an eight-speed PDK, and the 992 widened the body so that all variants now share the previously Carrera 4-exclusive rear track.
What makes it the default recommendation is breadth. In Normal, with the dampers soft, it rides better than most executive saloons and the cabin is quiet enough for a Penang run. In Sport Plus with the exhaust open it is a genuine performance car with 3.7 seconds to 100 km/h. Very few cars cover that range without compromise at either end.
The 992 also introduced Wet Mode, which uses acoustic sensors in the front wheel arches to detect standing water and pre-conditions the stability systems accordingly — a feature that earns its keep during a Malaysian downpour.
