About the M340i

The M340i xDrive sits directly beneath the M3 and, for most driving, is the more usable car. Its B58 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six produces 374 PS and 500 Nm, with a 48-volt mild-hybrid starter-generator adding a brief 11 PS of electrical assistance and smoothing the stop-start transitions that make many performance sedans tiresome in traffic.

The LCI facelift brought the curved display running BMW's iDrive 8, reprofiled headlights and a revised grille, but the mechanical package is unchanged where it matters: an M Sport differential on the rear axle, adaptive M suspension, larger brakes than the standard 3 Series, and xDrive with a strong rearward torque bias.

It covers 0-100 km/h in 4.4 seconds — within half a second of an M3 — while riding quietly enough for a KL-to-Penang run and returning fuel economy an M car cannot approach.

Turbo delivers the M340i across Greater Kuala Lumpur. A sensible choice for executive use where an M3 would be conspicuous.
