About the M5 Competition
The F90 M5 was the first M5 with all-wheel drive, and BMW pre-empted the objections by making it switchable: M xDrive offers 4WD, a rear-biased 4WD Sport, and a full 2WD mode that disconnects the front axle entirely and disables stability control. It is the only car in the segment that lets the driver make that choice.
The 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 produces 625 PS and 750 Nm in Competition form, enough for 3.3 seconds to 100 km/h — figures that would have been supercar territory a decade earlier, in a car with five seats and a full-size boot.
Competition specification adds stiffer engine mounts, firmer springs, a lowered ride height and a more aggressive exhaust. It is a genuinely dual-purpose car: silent and comfortable in Comfort, savage in Sport Plus.
