About the AMG E 53
The E 53 marked AMG's return to the inline-six after two decades of V6s and V8s. The M256 3.0-litre unit is turbocharged and supplemented by an electric auxiliary compressor that spools instantly at low revs, eliminating the lag that a single large turbocharger would otherwise introduce.
A 48-volt EQ Boost starter-generator sits between engine and gearbox, contributing a further 22 PS and 250 Nm in short bursts and allowing the engine to shut down and restart imperceptibly. Total output is 435 PS, driving all four wheels through AMG's 4MATIC+ system and a nine-speed Speedshift TCT transmission with a wet clutch in place of a torque converter.
The result is a car that reaches 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds while remaining a genuine long-distance executive sedan — air suspension, a quiet cabin, and a boot that takes four suitcases.
