About the Defender 110
The new Defender abandoned the ladder frame after seventy-one years in favour of a bonded and riveted aluminium monocoque that Land Rover claims is the stiffest body structure it has ever built — three times stiffer than a conventional body-on-frame design.
That decision transformed the car on the road. It rides, steers and insulates like a modern SUV, which the old Defender emphatically did not, while retaining a wading depth of 900 millimetres, a locking centre differential and Terrain Response 2 with configurable modes.
The P400 uses a 3.0-litre inline-six with 48-volt mild-hybrid assistance producing 400 PS. The 110 body offers five seats with an optional third row, and the interior uses exposed structural fixings and hose-out flooring as a deliberate design statement.
