About the AMG A 45 S
Every AMG A 45 S engine is built by one technician start to finish under the One Man, One Engine principle, and the result is the highest specific output of any series-production four-cylinder engine: 421 PS from 1,991 cc, or roughly 211 PS per litre. To achieve it AMG uses a twin-scroll turbocharger running up to 2.1 bar, roller-bearing turbine shafts and a closed-deck cylinder block.
The drivetrain is equally unusual. AMG Performance 4MATIC+ uses two separate clutches on the rear axle, which allows genuine torque vectoring side to side and a Drift Mode that sends everything rearward.
It is not a subtle car. The exhaust cracks on overrun, the ride in Sport Plus is firm, and it accelerates to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds — supercar territory from a hatchback. For drivers who want maximum performance in a compact footprint, nothing else comes close.
