About the Wrangler

The JL Wrangler is the only vehicle in this fleet designed around off-road capability first. It keeps live axles front and rear where every rival has moved to independent suspension, and in Rubicon specification adds electronic locking differentials at both ends, a 4:1 low-range transfer case and an electronically disconnecting front anti-roll bar that frees up several inches of additional articulation at the press of a button.

The 2.0-litre turbocharged four produces 272 PS and 400 Nm through an eight-speed automatic — more torque, lower down, than the naturally aspirated V6 it replaced, which suits both crawling and highway cruising.

The doors come off, the windscreen folds flat, and the roof panels lift out. That is the point of the car, and it is worth saying plainly that the trade is real: wind noise and steering precision are what a solid-axle vehicle with a removable roof gives up in exchange.

Turbo delivers the Wrangler across Greater Kuala Lumpur. Popular for coastal trips, content shoots and Janda Baik weekends.
